Music Obsessive

About Me

Hi, I’m Martin Warminger and I’m a bit obsessive about music.  Always have been - it's just one of those things.  I've tried to get over it but then thought, why bother?

Just for the record (ha ha, Ok, it gets better), I was born a long time ago in Epsom, Surrey but currently reside in Hertfordshire with my wife and two children.

Following a childhood spent in St Albans, I graduated from Reading University and qualified as a Chartered Surveyor in 1980.  Based in Central London, I have worked in the property profession for 30 years, first as a commercial property valuer and latterly as a Business Consultant to IT.  But that’s really just the background stuff.

More to the point, I have been a passionate fan of popular music almost from birth and I still listen to an inordinate amount of it, as well as playing the guitar very badly and writing songs as hobbies.  Having amassed a vast collection of LPs and CDs over the past forty odd years, I am currently wrestling with an MP3 player, which accompanies me virtually everywhere and internet file downloads.

Whilst the ideas for ‘Memoirs of a Music Obsessive’ were formulated over a long period of ruminating about the pop music world (or to put it another way: arguing in the pub), the concept of committing them to paper was born during an inactive year spent off work, recovering from a back complaint which eventually involved surgery, followed by many months of recuperation etc etc (don’t ask).  It was during this latter period of enforced inactivity, spent soaking up artistic culture in all its forms (Film/TV, books and of course, music) that the calling to articulate my own theories about music obsession grew so insistent that I had to do something about it if I was ever to sleep again.  So I wrote a book about them.

I also write a music blog at http://mwarminger.blogspot.com so check out my recent posts and leave comments if you wish to join the discussions.
