The Ideal Gift for the Music Obsessive in your life!

Brief Synopsis

As a music lover myself, I wrote this book for others who love pop/rock in all its forms.

'Memoirs' is a cathartic and humorous account of one fan’s life (i.e. mine) in the thrall of pop music in all its forms set against the humdrum backdrop of suburban living and trying to be a grown-up.

Part autobiography and part analytical commentary on popular culture covering the past 5 decades or so, the narrative toggles between the two main threads and demonstrates how an obsession with popular music can grow to ludicrous proportions.

The autobiographical sections cover such topics as musical experiences at primary and secondary school, university and work (nearly all embarrassing, especially as I get older), the effects on marriage and hopes for the next generation.

The commentary and analysis sections include fervent rants on such diverse subjects as Warminger’s Laws of Music Lists, the dangers of buying singles, how songwriters affect bands, the invisible artists, European rock, the problems of song recognition, why bad singers are best, families in rock and the vinyl/CD wars.

This book is aimed at those fellow music obsessives who love music yet never quite grew up and wonder why everyone else did.  You are not alone.

Video of the Moment

Thoughtforms by my all-time favourite band, Lush.  This was the track that attracted me to Lush back in 1988 and this live version is beautifully portrayed at just the right tempo.

How many times have bands ruined your favourite song by barnstorming through it at breakneck pace?
